Bringing Education to Doorsteps: School on Wheels Initiative in Cameroon

United Action for Children presents School on Wheels, an innovative program aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for children living in rural and urban poor areas of the South West Region of Cameroon. The primary goal of this initiative is to improve school performance, grades, and enrollment rates among these underserved children, as well as to reach out to out-of-school children in rural villages. By providing remedial reading and other academic programs directly to their doorsteps, School on Wheels bridges the educational gap between rural and urban areas, empowering children with the highest educational opportunities available.

By utilizing mobile vans, the School on Wheels project delivers education to children living in remote villages who lack access to remedial programs due to the limited educational backgrounds of their parents. It is worth noting that approximately 80% of parents in rural areas of Cameroon are illiterate, which contributes to the significant performance gap between rural and urban children. This initiative specifically targets children in the Buea and Mamfe municipalities within the South West Region.
