Greetings from UP!. We are a group of students who use their free time to make the world a better place by building a trustworthy and stable social network which consults and connects worldwide projects and organisations operating in Africa. This way, we enhance their growth but also UPlift them, by connecting them with our local partners in the regions they operate in.

Our Project was founded in 2020 with the purpose of acting as a network that brings Enactus Germany projects together and has since then evolved into a consulting and partnership project for worldwide organisations operating in Africa.

Our Story

Ujuzi Pote 1.0

The project was founded at the end of 2020 by Valerie zu Rhein and Enactus Munich, after realising that there were numerous Enactus Germany projects operating in Uganda, which faced the same issues and difficulties, however, had no contact with one another. Therefore, the original idea that brought UP! to life was to connect all these Enactus projects operating in the same area and build a network to support them in overcoming similar problems and ensure that the knowledge of doing so won’t be lost.

Growing the original idea into something bigger

Once an initial team was formed, our network grew exponentially and more and more projects got to know about us. We worked closely with them to create a database called “UPfacts”, full of useful information which we collected to support them in their journey of establishing themselves in Uganda. Furthermore, we held a few General Meetings with our entire network which were very successful as they led to beneficial information sharing. Therefore, we focused even more on providing insightful events. This is how we got the idea of additionally organising Expert Talks and also found our first Experts who were our key speakers, which was a big improvement in our value proposition. Apart from that, to further grow our network, we started being active on social media as well, by creating Instagram and LinkedIn accounts, but also expanded outside of Uganda, including projects and organisations in additional African countries. Lastly, we also created a “local associates” network, as we realised that the opinions of locals are imperative for the success of our projects and organisations.

Updating and Rebranding: UP Consult & Connect

Shortly after the first year had passed, we realised that our database was not enough to help our projects overcome the similar issues they were facing and that a rather more active approach to supporting them was necessary. Furthermore, we were oftentimes asked to hold special individual sessions with our projects, in order to personally share with them the information we collected through the years about how previous projects resolved similar issues to the ones they were currently facing. This was when we decided to offer them individual consulting sessions ourselves and also improve our consulting and advising capabilities. This subsequently led to the birth of UP Consult & Connect, our rebranded identity as a project. Now we were not simply a network but had also added consulting to our value proposition.

The way UP!

After some initial consulting sessions, we found out that even though they were appreciated and helpful for our network members, they were not as effective as we would have wished, at least for now. Therefore, we decided to pause our efforts towards consulting for the time being and rather re-focus on what our members need the most. This is increasing the connections and members of our network as well as the number of our local contacts and that’s exactly what we are currently trying to achieve!
